In 2022, Steven Ulman was sick of the city rat race (especially after the 2020 lockdowns) so he bought a completely undeveloped 40 acre lot in the middle of the Mojave Desert. While sleeping in an empty enclosed trailer he slowly built his dream property with cabins, a stand-alone solar power grid & plumbing system.
“I feel robbed that i ever paid for electricity”
But Steven’s dream didn’t come without complications. Living on-site without infrastructure, driving 1 hour each way to town for forgotten tools, materials, gasoline for generators (and of course, coffee) can take up most of the day. Tools break and some days are spent fixing the tools needed to work on the property. It took a long time but now he says:
“i am not only surviving, i am thriving.”
With his dream property built, Steven’s goal now is to help people avoid the mistakes he made, substantially cut their build time, enjoy their off grid property sooner & sleep well at night knowing self sustainable and SAFE systems are in place for their family. He loves attending renewable energy conferences & learning anything & everything to help improve off grid systems.

After graduating as a D-1 four year starter for the College of Charleston softball team with a major in Business Administration & Hospitality & Tourism Management, Carly craved a simple country life away from the grind.
